Biography

ANNA MAYILYAN
Mezzo - Soprano

1988-1992 - Studies at the Romanos Melikyan Music College, vocal department (Prof. Tamara Hambardzumyan).

1992-1996 - Studies at the State Conservatory, vocal department and received post-graduate vocal education (Prof. Anna Saradjyan).

1997 - Specialization in vocal at the European Mozart Academy in Poland (Prof. Kerstin Mayer, Eva Blahova, Alexander Satz, Aurelie Nicolet and Imre Rohmann).

2000-2001 - Master-classes with Arax Davtyan (Armenia), Mariana Nicolesco (Romania), Carol Smith (Switzerland), Anna Reynolds ("Villecroze" Academy, France-Germany).

1995 up to the present - Soloist of Saint Katoghike Church of Kotayk Diocese

1999 up to the present - Professor of the classic vocal faculty at State Conservatory named after Komitas (Yerevan, RA).

2003 - Gold medal from Armenian Ministry of Culture.

2005-2006 - Broadcasting of the author's musical programme by the radio station "Impulse".

2007 up to the present - Founder and artistic director of "Ethno-vocal" ensemble of traditional and sacred music.

28th of June, 2008 - Conferring of the title of Honoured Artist of RA (by the order of the president of RA).

Since 1989 - Concert tours in Armenia and abroad.

Competitions

1994 "Komitas" vocal competition (1st Prize, Armenia)

1996 Austro-German and Armenian vocal competition (1st prize, Armenia)

2000 Hariclea Darklee International vocal competition (Laureate and gold medal, Romania)

2001 Semi-final at Placido Domingo's "Operalia" International vocal competition (Washington, USA). One of the 5 best mezzo-sopranos.

2001 "Ibla-Grand Prize" International competition in Sicily (Italia). Laureate, special prizes for Armenian sacred acapella and German Lieder program.

2003 Prize-winner at the category "The best ethnic ensemble" in the framework of the First Armenian National Award.

2007 Prize-winner at the categories "The best folk singer of the year (among women)" and "The best folk CD album of the year" for CD "Anna Mayilyan and Ethn-Vocal trio / Armenian traditional songs )" at Armenian National Award.

Since 1992 Anna Mayilyan had numerous concert tours in Armenia and abroad. The repertory of Anna Mayilyan includes numerous musical compositions of different genres. She stands out for her original interpretation of songs and for the variety of personages. Mayilyan likes to unveil her potential in various genres of the art of singing, but she is always focused upon the Armenian music (folk and sacred songs, romances, classic and modern vocal music).
